T-shirt for Readers

This design, of an iconofied book reader over the phrase "tijd voor lezen" (lit. time for reading), is the emblem of a Dutch literacy program geared towards getting people to read more when they have "down" time - like on the train for instance. They have all kinds of cool resources, including books and magazines to read on the trains, visits by authors, book clubs etc. Seems kind of quaint in an age where more people would get excited about free Wi-Fi on the train, but we thought it was a nice innocuous thing for a government to be doing for its citizens - as opposed to say, secretly pawing through their library records? Anyway, it's a really cool design and it's in Dutch, so what more do you really need to know that you can't read about later?

Star Wars fans instantly recall the moment General Akbar utters the warning "It's A Trap" when the rebel fleet attacks the Death Star in Return of the Jedi. (I think I have my Star Wars references correct - tell me if I'm wrong).

At Lush T-shirts its mostly quantity over quality - mainly one color slogan t-shirts but there are a few good ones mixed in (hopefully they are not just stolen from other t-shirt companies but I suspect they are).

A lot of old saws like "Kiss Me I'm Irish" and "Frankie Says Relax" plus some enticing lesbian shirts like "It Aint Gonna Lick Itself". Hmmmm what exactly does the mean?

The T-Shirt: A Collection of 500 Designs

Perhaps the ultimate icon of this generation, the T-shirt originated from tea and shirts. The history claims that seventeenth-century workers downloading tea boxes from boats in the harbor of Annapolis in the US wore a kind of short sleeve shirt that was eventually named the T-shirt in reference to the tea as well as form of the shirt, which resembled the letter "T:. By the 1920s, the word T-shirt appeared in official U.S. dictionaries. Over time, what was originally just a form of warm-weather work clothing has evolved and developed a life of its own. The T-shirt, in its simplist form, makes a statement about the wearer. Whether political, artistic, or humorous, a T-shirt displays a message that reflects the ideals of the wearer. T-shirts are one of the world?s most prolific forms of graphic message and personal statement, both commercial and personal. This collection looks at the T-shirt and its many forms. The chapters include The Legend of the T-shirt, Power of an Idol, Duplication of Art, Declaration, Mobile Posters, Simple and Fashionable, Design Element, and Technique. Altogether, this volume provides an immense catalog of 500 designs for inspiration and enjoyment for designers, crafters, and T-shirt enthusiasts.

Generation T: 108 Ways to Transform a T-Shirt

Make it yours. This inspirational guide with DIY attitude has everything you need to know about the world’s great T-shirt: how to cut it, sew it, deconstruct it, reconstruct it, and best of all, transform it. • Features more than 100 projects (plus 200 variations) for customized tees, tank tops, tube tops, T-skirts—even handbags, a patchwork blanket, iPod cozies, leg warmers, and more. • Not a DIY expert? Not to worry. More than one third of the projects are no sew, meaning anyone who can wield a pair of scissors can put a personal stamp on her wardrobe. But the sewing basics are here too: backstitch and whipstitch, gather and ruche, appliqué and drawstrings. • And the mission statement for Generation T: Ask not what your T-shirt can do for you; ask what you can do for your T-shirt. And then Do-It-Yourself!
